How do you clean maple tree sap off of commercial playground equipment?

We have just had a large commercial playground installed between some beautiful shade trees that lie between a church and school. The committee and administration had no idea that these beautiful trees would drip sap all over the brand new playground making it impossible to use without constant cleaning. A kindergarten child slid half-way down and went head first when they became stuck in the sap. The monkey bars are also a problem. The school/church needs an economical way to clean the equipment without chopping down the trees, if possible, and without causing damage or toxicity to the playground or the children’s clothing.
