How can I keep cats away from my kids outdoor play area?

Chicka asked:
We have new playground equipment which includes a sand filled area that cannot be covered. I need a long term, kid safe solution that will keep the cats from doing what cats do in the sand. Any ideas?
Neighborhood cats invade my yard. I wouldn’t own a cat, but if I did, I certainly wouldn’t let it roam.

Are these your cats or neighborhood cats?
If they are your cats, keep your cats indoors.

For or days anytime you use lemon in your cooking chop the peel finely and sprinkle over the peel you could spray the peel finely and sprinkle over the area that you want to keep the cats away from have had some success with this method but havent tried it in your cooking chop.
