How much break time are school children entitled to?

Saturday, December 25th, 2010
Andrew asked:

Because teachers at my daughters school ask them to work throughout their lunchtime by giving out playground equipment and are not allowed to play at all. I personally do not agree with this at all. It is not a punishment and my daughter has to do it around twice every month but in the same week. And surely the dinner ladies are supposed to do this. Is there any law that the school are defying.

What to say to a fun-killing grandma?

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010
amber waves of grain asked:

My daughter (3 1/2) is attending vacation bible school this week and made friends with sweet little boy there, I think he’s 4. Every day she finds him so they can dance together during the sing-a-long and they sit together during lessons. The problem is the grandmother, who is volunteering and is present the entire time, interupts them every time they start having fun (examples: dancing during the songs, climbing playground equipment while the youngsters are allowed to be on playground, stopping them from hugging or holding hands, etc.). What the kids are doing isn’t against any of my rules, I recognize that VBS is a time for kids to enjoy church and their peers, plus learn about Jesus. Grandma seems to think it’s a strict “school” atmosphere.
This is the little boy’s grandmother.

Trying to raise 100,000 for new school playground need ideas?

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010
veryruralchick asked:

Trying to raise money for new playground. This will be used by the whole community as the town park also. The current playground floods regulary and the equipment is unsafe. I need some ideas on fund raising aside from candy sales. Trying to raise money by summer and we are in a very cold climate. So send any ideas…anything will help.

Why aren’t modern playgrounds built in the shade?

Friday, December 17th, 2010
Elaine C asked:

My four-year-old loves to go to the playground. But it’s summer, and I’ve discovered that most playgrounds have no shade whatsoever. Here we are in a beautiful park with huge, beautiful shade trees all around us–and, in a flat treeless area out of range of any shade whatsoever, sits some plastic and metal playground equipment on a bed of wood chips.

Not even the parent benches have shade most of the time. They’re hard metal, uncomfortable, and blazing hot after ten o’clock in the morning.

I know there must be a good reason for this… probably some silly liability issue. But I can’t imagine what it would be. How would it increase the park’s liability to build the playground in range of the shade trees? Any ideas?

My son is limping, at what point do I take him to the doc?

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010
Carrie asked:

My 2 year old son jumped off of playground equipment. It wasn’t too terribly high, but it was higher than a step. Anyway, he stayed in his landing position and started crying and of course I ran to his care. I asked him to walk around and he was limping on his left foot, I think. It’s been three days and he is still limping. It’s barely noticeable, and he still plays around on it. Sometimes if he’s being a crazy little boy I’ll here him say “ouch.”

So my question is, when should I take him in? Oh long should I give him before deciding it may be something that won’t heal on it’s own?

Thank you!

P.S. There is no bruising.

Should a Pit Bull be put down after an attack?

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010
qm1john asked:

My son was attacked last year by a Pitt Bull dog, The attack was unprovoked, and extremely nasty. The dog saw my 12 year old out playing with friends, got out of her owners home Jumped up on the playground equipment and dragged my son off of it!!! My son was bitten up pretty bad, and needed surgery, and counseling. It has been a year and the dog is still alive? I was told by the police department if I kill the dog I will go to jail? The story gets better, my wife and her “ex” used to raise Pitt Bulls. She got out of the business after years of raising them when she finally realized they are dangerous! Knowing this I am extremely appalled that this dog is still alive. So my question again is should this dog be put down?

Are there any daycare owners on here?

Monday, December 6th, 2010
dreamee asked:

I’m planning to open a daycare in August 2010. I’m thinking about buying a house in a commercial area. I want to start by having no more than 25 children from the ages of 6 wks-18 months. I think it would be cheaper since I wouldn’t have to worry about so many toilets per child, food, playground equipment, field trips, etc. I would like to expand maybe after three years to include older children. Do anyone think this is a good way to start?

How many times will the Republicans fall of the playground equipment before they learn to play correctly?

Monday, December 6th, 2010
Average College Student asked:

Like little school children, republicans don’t want to provide health care period. This is more against the will than the democrats ability to communicate between a few house and senate members. Switzerland’s system is the best in the world and they pay half of what we do. We should hire them to run our system. But we blow it all on military and corporate welfare.

By having the government force companies to provide and people to buy health insurance, we can all benefit.
